Your Annual Free Credit Report Can
Be Obtained Only Through AnnualCreditReport.com
AnnualCreditReport.com
is the only centralized service for consumers to request annual credit reports.
It was created by the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies --
Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
AnnualCreditReport.com processes requests for free credit reports. Under the
Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) consumers can request and
obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide
consumer credit reporting companies. AnnualCreditReport.com provides consumers
with the secure means to do so.
The three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies have always encouraged
consumers to regularly review their credit reports. AnnualCreditReport.com offers
consumers a fast and convenient way to request, view and print their credit
reports in a secure Internet environment. They also provide options to request
reports by telephone and by mail.
Three ways to order your free credit report
Consumer Tips
- The three credit bureaus have established a single service for consumers
to use when ordering free credit reports. The contact information for this
service is set forth below. Do not attempt to order free credit reports directly
from the credit reporting agencies.
- You will be asked to provide sensitive information in order to receive your
report. This is necessary to prevent identity thieves from obtaining copies
of other people's credit reports.
- You may request at the time of ordering that no more than the last four
digits of your Social Security Number appear on copies of your credit report.
- Consider marking your calendar to request a report from a different credit
bureau every 4th month. Consumers are recommended to order credit reports
as a preventative measure against identity theft and stagger their requests
so that they receive a free report from one of the three credit reporting
agencies every four months.
NOTE:
While every consumer is entitled to get a free credit report from each
credit bureau every 12 months, credit
scores are not free.
